No More Chamberlain-Hunt!

Upon returning to LA Sunday from the CRM conference in Mexico, I had a surprise the next morning: I received a call from the boarding school in Mississippi where our son Cameron (17) has been going to school these past 2 years. The Board decided yesterday morning that they will be closing school and not start the fall semester as planned on August 11 (in 13 days).

Last year at this time we were reeling from news that the school might close (they decided to stay open) AND that our landlord of 5 years would not renew our lease for our final year in Singapore. Cameron had a GREAT school year, and we moved to Malaysia.
Staying at Leezibet’s on Sunset Beach.
Not a bad place to process the shock!

God has a good plan. We just have to find it. Currently Jim and my plan is to move back to LA for a home assignment in November.

This means that by Thanksgiving we’ll be back together again as a family, praising God for the way he led us through this!

A note from one of the staff members today:
It was wonderful to hear from you. I am so happy that Cameron can play football and will have so many more opportunities at King’s Academy than he would have had at Chamberlain Hunt Academy. I am so sorry that CHA closed. I do miss the students, parents and the employees so much. The job was a blessing for me and I really enjoyed my job.

Closing the school was such a shock for all of us. Mr. Montgomery told us that the school would go forward on Friday and on Monday at noon, Mr. Wells called Wes’ cellphone to tell us that he was closing the school immediately.

Mr. Wells hired Andrew Erickson from Lyman Ward Military School as Admissions and Marketing Director. He and his family moved to Port Gibson and had not even been here two weeks when Mr. Wells closed the school. Andrew and his family moved to Wisconsin. They were so happy to be in Mississippi because they were close to both sets of parents, grandparents and siblings. My heart went out to them.

Flo Strawn is teaching at Warren Central High School, PeggyMcLemore is teaching at Dana Roads Elementary, Vance McGee is teaching at Porter’s Chapel all in Vicksburg. Keith is waiting on a position outside of teaching. Tim Wallace went to Riverside Academy in Georgia and Wes McClure went to Sunshine Bible Academy in South Dakota. Tim really hated to leave Port Gibson. Jo Ann and I helped him with his packing. I was only able to help on Wednesday because I had a dentist appointment in Monroe, Louisiana on Thursday. Jo Ann helped him Thursday and Friday.

Kay Humphries, Vecie Cain, Gregory Harris, Tony McCay, Charles Hills and Andrew Patterson are still working at the school. Jo Ann is working for her husband in their forestry business and I am staying at home.

Mr. Wells has had quite a few offers from people and organizations wanting to buy the school, but I have not heard anything except that he was waiting on Alcorn University’s offer. Alcorn is State Owned so it will probably take almost a year before it can be purchased.

Please keep in touch and let me know how Cameron is doing. Cameron was such a wonderful young man and he was so special. He came by my office every day to speak and get a peppermint. I miss him.

You were also very special to me and I am so thankful that our paths crossed. I appreciate all of the help that you gave me while I was employed at CHA.
