Heroes for Us All
When we first moved to Singapore after China, our church in Fullerton, EV Free, sent us a CD of piano and cello music. Though he was only four at the time, that became Cameron’s favorite music, and he fell in love with the cello in particular.
On a visit to the US last year, one of his goals was to meet Carolyn Litchfield and Howie Stevenson, the musicians on the CD. We heard Carolyn perform at a wedding at the church (Dale Burke’s daughter), and got to visit Howie and Marilyn Stevenson at their home in Santa Barbara. We had the most wonderful time with the Stevensons, visiting and then singing songs in their living room as they played side-by-side pianos.
Howie had been the Worship Pastor at EV Free when Jim first started pastoring there in 1984. Though there were a lot of extremely talented and experienced pastors on the staff, there were none more positive and encouraging than Howie. He is a role model for us of someone who has lived his life well, and invested his all in serving the Lord and in building up others.
We got to visit the Stevensons again yesterday when we picked up Tyler from FCA Camp at UCSB, and we cherish any time we have to visit with this joyful and loving couple.
