October Plans & November News in Singapore
Dear Friends,
We haven’t sent any pictures of life in Singapore for awhile.
I’ve collected some good photo memories of life and ministry for this month.
Join us in thanking God for his care for us.
Join us in praying for his continued provision, and his wisdom & grace as we invest the lives of others.
October 1 – Children’s Day:
Kimberly is asked to lead a special program for Children’s Church.
45 kindergartners in one large tiled room.
FUN!
7 – Kimberly attends another wedding!
This one, for two new theatre friends Sarah & Roy.
This week is the fifth anniversary of adding our dog Rascal and a car to our family.
After two years in Singapore these two purchases put down some healthy roots
and our family began to flourish here.
Kimberly recalls it like she’d been born again twice:
1st: New life in Christ, and
2nd: New life in Car

13 – International Night for the boys’ school
The younger kids in Drama Club did an US Armed Forces Medley.
Tyler and a friend did their version of “The Mr. Brown Show”
(a local Singaporean podcaster and blogger)
Jim uploaded the video to YouTube, and it has since become quite the hit!
(nearly 30,000 views i think!)
Due to popular demand,
Tyler has been invited to be on the Mr Brown Show this week.
He’ll be recording in their studio on Friday, Nov 3rd.
We’re all praying for inspiration on how to use this talent of Tyler’s
to spread the good news of Jesus!

You may need to watch it more than once to understand him!
Yes, he’s speaking English!
October 19 – Jim and one of his Singapore mentees lead a daylong seminar on Mentoring for a Singapore mission staff and missionaries.
20 – Cameron wanted 4th grade to win the Read-a-Thon,
so he invited his class over on a school holiday to have a READING PARTY.
Read his story about this and other recent events on his blog:

20 – Five Stars met for lunch. One of the actors, Charlotte, left last week to study in Paris.
Last week, I was able to catch up over lunch with the 5th who’s not in the picture.
The 14th-19th was probably the saddest week of my life, but God was near.
During the premature birth, 5 days of life, and the loss of my friend EeMien’s baby,
I wrestled with the Lord about “What’s the Point?”
That little baby embodied for me all that is wrong with the world.
As I wrestled with God, I began reading exactly what she needed to hear in VELVET ELVIS, by Rob Bell:
“For Jesus, this new kind of life in him is not about escaping this world
but about making it a better place, here and now.
The goal for Jesus isn’t to get into heaven.
The goal is go get heaven here.†(p148)
“Jesus wants his followers to bring heaven, not hell, to earth.†(p149)
26-27 – Jim leads a two-day retreat with five pastors,
studying Philip Yancey’s book, “What’s So Amazing About Graceâ€
28 – Jim has his second Facilitator’s Breakfast:
a half-day meeting with the facilitator-coaches he has trained
and supervised over the past few years, preparing for the launch
of new mentoring networks in January.
Which brings us up to this week…
29-Nov4 Jim is in Thailand this week with our CRM colleagues, Keith & Lori Webb,
training mission leaders from around Asia in coaching skills.
Kimberly and our 4 kids (the Webbs & ours!) stay in Singapore for the regular routine.
Tuesday Nights: Kimberly’s PERFORMING ARTS CLASS. It’s been going very well and will finish up November 28th. They’ve really bonded and blessed one another as we’ve all learned together. I’m thanking God for his timing in bringing some guests through the class to share their form of performing arts. Videos of in class work and photos from the class are posted on http://creativeartstca.blogspot.com/
November 6-12 CRM US President Sam Metcalf pays one of his semi-annual visits. Tuesday he joins Jim and the Singapore Board for an all-day vision meeting; Friday another CRM leader will be here to lead a half-day seminar for pastors on “Preventing Ministry Burnout.†Through the week Dr. Metcalf and Jim will individually meet with church leaders to talk about partnerships with CRM and recruiting Singapore staff members.
15-18 Jim trains 12-16 “Focusing Leaders Network†graduates to become facilitator-coaches of new networks in January 2007.
They will study facilitation skills, coaching skills, and the concepts of character formation that make up the network curriculum.
23-26 The first time in our 9 years in Asia that Kim won’t find, and cook a turkey! Jim and Tyler are going to nearby Thailand for a father-son trip to study Focus on the Family’s “Preparing for Adolescence†and have a fun time snorkeling together. We’ll make up for missing Thanksgiving together in other ways, but we hope that you (if you’re an American) will have a blessed time with extended family.
With love from Singapore!
