August Prayer

Back Together Again in Singapore.

Praise the Lord for a great six weeks’ of grandparent and family time in the US for Kimberly and boys. For Jim is was a good two weeks of leaders mentoring networks and coaching appointments in Singapore, with four weeks of travel in China meeting with business and ministry leaders to learn about mentoring opportunities in the church and marketplace. It was a happy family reunion August 1st when we were all back in Singapore together.

Thank you again and again to those who spoiled us on this USA visit. What a relational smorgasbord on both sides of the continent! With every visit back to the USA I look more and more forward to heaven. When times on a fallen planet can be so wonderful, it makes me long for when Jesus will restore all of us, and everything else to the way it’s supposed to be. What eternal joy that will be.

August is not a slow month in Singapore – it’s a busy time for getting settled into our new apartment and a few new ministry endeavors. And after 8 years of Chinese and Singaporean schools, the boys are starting 7th and 3rd grades at an international Christian school – the first time they’ve not been the “foreigners” in class, and studying from an American curriculum. A big change for the whole family that we’re excited about!

Aug 3, 4, 16, 17 Jim leads networks of Singaporean pastors and Christian leaders focusing on spiritual renewal, character formation, and skill development. Please pray for them as Paul did, “We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what he wants to do in your lives, and we ask him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. ” Col 1:9

Aug 9 We held a housewarming on Singapore’s National Day. This year we’re celebrating 40 years of statehood! We’re celebrating our first National Day as Permanent Residents. Some have asked if we had to give up our US citizenship and the answer is “no.” We’re very glad to be more officially committed to the country and the people where we serve in Jesus’ name.

Aug 11 CRM Singapore holds its third annual meeting, electing new officers and discussing ways to grow in empowering godly and gifted leaders. There is a palpable rapport among this team that is leading what is a growing mentoring movement.

Aug 11 Jim presents opportunities for Beijing Olympics outreach at the Sports Coalition Singapore vision meeting, encouraging Singapore churches and ministries to find ways to minister through sports.

Aug 11, 18, 20, 21 Kimberly teaches a 10-hour scriptwriting class for people from local churches. You can join us with our writing assignments online.

Aug 15 Tyler (7th grade) and Cameron (3rd grade) start at the International Community School, a school for missionary kids and other foreigners. The staff and teachers all see their roles as a ministry, and we’re glad for the input and blessing they will be for our family in the coming years. Please pray for good relationships, a growing desire to learn, and growing awareness of their gifts and how they can serve God. Also, thank God with us for being approved for financial aid.

Aug 18 Jim holds a quarterly meeting for church and mission agency leaders forcusing on China ministry, to learn from each other and share resources. Please pray for greater collaboration in ministry.

Aug 22 – Sept 2 Jim travels in three cities in China meeting with ministry leaders. One of his network members in Singapore, a godly and gifted man who is CEO of a large corporation, is traveling with him to explore marketplace mentoring opportunities.

Aug 24 Kimberly hosts a training event to learn Enacted Prayer, a style of group worship and prayer that uses improvised theatre and music with each prayer requests offered.

Kimberly continues to meet with The Five Stars, who have grown in their bond of trust and friendship. They are beginning to speak truth to each other. They are an encouragement to each other personally and in their field as professional dramatists. But, we’ve still a lot of growing to do. The newest element to our discussions is that all of them are now have boyfriends. Three of them are in relationships with non-believers. Joni is back from Perth to perform in a show this month. We’re enjoying spending some time with her while she’s here. Pray with me for Neelam who is still not a follower of Jesus, but is reading Christian books with us and adding a lot to our discussions.

What’s God doing in your life this month? How can we pray for you too?

With Love from Singapore,

Kimberly & Jim,
Tyler & Cameron
